William Melvin Strickland, age 74, passed away Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late George Benjamin Strickland and Ruby Weeks Strickland. Melvin was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9959 in Mt. Olive and the American Legion Post 103 also in Mt. Olive. He was an avid deer hunter.
A time of visitation with family and friends will be held Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Sylvia Strickland; his daughters, Leigh Strickland, Dee Flinta and Crystal Williford and her husband, Justin; his brothers, James Strickland, George Strickland, Larry Strickland and Steve Strickland; his sisters, Diane Smith and Carol Alvarado; two grandchildren, Alex Flinta and Eli Williford; and two great grandchildren, Ethan Flinta and Jacob Flinta.
