Men’s Basketball: UMO Defeats St. Augustine’s In Final Day of Pickle Classic

The University of Mount Olive men’s basketball team defeated the Falcons of St. Augustine on Saturday on the final day of the 56th Annual Mt. Olive Pickle Classic. This win takes the Trojans to 1-3 overall. 

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive took a three-point deficit to open up the contest down 6-3 with 18:06 left in the half. The Trojans tied the contest at 13 with 14:50 left in the first half with a three-pointer from Alan Treakle. UMO remained in the lead for the remainder of the half with an 18 point lead at halftime 43-25.

The second half saw the Trojans score the first eights points of the half. Mount Olive then took a 20-point lead 51-31 with 15:45 remaining in the contest. The Falcon defense had no answer for the Trojans as Mount Olive stayed in control for the remainder of the game. UMO took home a 22-point victory over the Falcons 90-68.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Cole Johnson led the Trojans with 15 points and three rebounds while Jeremiah Phifer took home nine rebounds.

FALCONS LEADERS
The Falcons were led by Dhashon Dyson with 25 points.

KEY STAT
The Trojans capitalized on second-chance points as they had 24 while the Falcons only had 15.

“Feels great to get our 1st win of the year.  Very happy for my guys.  We are improving.  Loved the crowd and all the alumni, Pickle Classic is a special time here at UMO!” UMO head coach Joey Higginbotham said.

Mount Olive will stay at home in Kornegay Arena as the Trojans take on Francis Marion University on Tuesday at 7:00PM.
