Commissioners Won’t Reenact Mask Mandate In Most County Facilities

(GDN) — Despite reconsideration, Wayne County is still doing away with its mask mandate for most county facilities.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners took another look at their previous action that ended the masking requirement for visitors and staff in most county buildings.

Commissioner Bevan Foster thought the county may have been premature in its decision, and that could lead to situations where county employees would get sick.

The board voted 3-4 and would not re-implement the mask mandate at county-owned facilities.

Commissioner Joe Daughtery also asked to clarify all of the mask policies in the county.

The exception includes the vaccination/testing center, Department of Social Services and the Health Department where masking is still a must.

Elected county officials (sheriff, register of deeds) are still allowed to set masking requirements within their own offices.
