Marie Potter Peele, 95, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, in the familiar comforts of her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Wayne County on March 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Lee and Hattie Geraldine Turner Potter.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, D.J. Peele; children, Durwood Peele, Linda Peele Fields, and infant twins, Stan and Jan Peele; great-great-grandson, Shawn Tate; and sisters, Virginia Williams and Betty Jean Smith.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Joan Peele Tyndall, and husband, Timothy; grandchildren, Ricky Fields and wife, Dianne, Tonya DeRosa and husband, Morris, Chris Tyndall and wife, Kristan, Stan Fields, and Corey Tyndall; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie was a dedicated and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of Woods Grove Church, where she proudly served as their secretary until her retirement. Marie possessed a steadfast faith and could often be found studying her God’s Word.

Marie was a lady of many talents. She loved to sew and was proficient with needles and thread. Marie had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to the many plants and flowers in her yard and garden.

Due to health and safety concerns with the COVID-19 Pandemic, Marie’s life was celebrated in a private graveside service for her immediate family at the Peele Family Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Smith officiated the service.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Pruitt Health and Hospice for the exemplary care provided to Marie.
