At just a few minutes into the new morning of Sunday, November 14, 2021, Judson Earl Sutton passed away at his home. He was a life-long resident of the Mount Olive/Calypso area.

Judson was the son of the late James Earl and Mabel Pennington Sutton and was one of their seven children. An avid outdoorsman, Judson enjoyed hunting or simply having a good time. A lifelong farmer, he was partnered in Sutton Brothers Farming, working closely with some of his brothers as they maintained the family farm. Judson also enjoyed just piddling, building things, and painting.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Thompson Sutton, of the home; three children, Lisa Sutton Jones and husband, Timmy, of Faison, David Earl Sutton of Mount Olive, and Blake King and wife, Rosie, of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Trevor Jones of Faison, Alexis Sutton Pate and husband, Trey, of Mount Olive, Taylor Jones of Faison, and Barrett King and Auden King, both of Mount Olive; a great-granddaughter whose arrival he was anxiously awaiting; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carroll and Jeannie Sutton, Billy and Martha Sutton, and Gary and Vickie Sutton, all of Mount Olive; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Erlene S. and Robert Brogden, and Janet S. and David Nickel, all of Mount Olive; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Thompson of Mount Olive, along with her family; a dear family friend and farm associate, Bernard McClain of Mount Olive; and his beloved Chihuahua, “Lulu.”

His oldest brother, Lindon Ray Sutton, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Jimmy Whitfield. Following the service, the family will remain at the cemetery to receive friends; at other times, they will be at the residence.
