Evening meetings will make a return to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.
Last month, the commissioners had ruled against holding one of their two monthly meetings in the late afternoon or evening.
This week, the board reconsidered the idea and agreed to hold evening meetings once per quarter in 2022.
Commissioner Antonio Williams felt it was a reasonable compromise.
Commissioner Bevan Foster says the board should consider what will constitute a successful evening meeting in terms of participation by citizens.
County Board Chair Wayne Aycock was still skeptical and said previous boards have tried the late meetings with little audience participation.
The evening Wayne County Board of Commissioner meetings will be held:
- January 4th
- April 5th
- July 5th
- October 4th
Each of those meetings will start with an Agenda Briefing at 4 PM followed by the formal meeting at 5 PM.
