Commissioners Decide Against Holding Evening Meetings

Commissioners Decide Against Holding Evening Meetings

Wayne County residents will have to continue watching and attending commissioner meetings in the morning.

An effort to move one of the monthly Wayne County Board of Commissioners meetings to an evening session was blocked at last week’s meeting.

Commissioner Bevan Foster was hoping more residents would be able to participate with an evening meeting.

Foster says most of the workforce in Wayne County is at their jobs while the commissioners are conducting the county’s business in the morning.

Commissioner Joe Daughtery said he could support an occasional evening meeting.

However, Daughtry noted the board had held evening meetings in the past with little noticeable increase in public attendance.

Currently, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners meetings are typically held on the first and third Tuesday of each month with 9 AM start times.

In the end, the commissioners voted 2-5 and defeated Foster’s motion to move one of the two monthly Wayne County Board meetings to the evening.
