Raymond Franklin Alphin peacefully passed away in the late hours of Sunday, October 17, 2021. He was born to the late John Alphin and Clara Kirkland Alphin in Greene County on October 12, 1932. In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Bill Alphin, Annie Ruth Daniels, Virginia “Sis” Tripp, Tom Alphin, Stanley Alphin, James “Boss” Alphin, and Edward Earl Alphin.
With an outgoing personality, there was no one that Raymond couldn’t talk to. He had the “gift of gab” and took full advantage of using it. He loved people and enjoyed the conversations he shared with old friends and new.
In Raymond’s early years, he found pleasure in tending the garden and working in the yard. Raymond’s downtime was spent cheering on his beloved #3 in NASCAR. In his spare time, he could be found collecting bottles and cans outside.
His time at work was spent as a truck driver hauling to and from DuPont. Though he was ready to retire, he wasn’t quite ready to stop working. Raymond began working part-time for Fred Moody & Sons Garage in Kinston. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and formed lasting friendships with his coworkers.
With a great sense of humor, Raymond was quite the cut-up. He always looked for new ways to prank his children and grandchildren. Raymond was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
A service to honor and celebrate Raymond’s life will be held by the graveside at Fairview Cemetery on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-1:45 p.m. before the service.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally Davis Alphin; children, Ramona Jones and husband, Danny, Clifton Alphin, and Richard Alphin; grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis and husband, Patrick, Jamie Smith and husband, Steve, Krista Alphin Hicks, and Alex Jones; great-grandchildren, Cameron Medico, Bryce Medico, Brier Hicks, Jared Smith, and Calli Ellis.
