School Board Sets Process For Filling District 5 Seat

Work begins to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Wayne County Board of Education. 

The board met Monday and set the process for filling the vacancy that will be created when current District 5 representative Joe Democko steps down on October 1st

Fellow school board member Patricia Burden made the motion for filling Democko’s seat using the process typically used in these situations.

School Board Attorney Richard Schwartz went through the approved process and timeline.

  • The Wayne County school district will start advertising for interested District 5 candidates on Wednesday, September 23. 
  • The deadline to apply will be 5 PM on October 6th.
  • The Board of Education will meet October 13th to determine who to interview from the applicants and select interview questions. 
  • The school board will then meet on October 21st to conduct the interviews. 

Democko is resigning from the school board to tend to his mother who is having health issues.
