Two Apply For Vacant City Council Seat

Two candidates throw their hat into the ring to try and be the next District 5 representative on the Goldsboro City Council.

After the application period closed at 5 PM on Friday, the City of Goldsboro announced the applicants for the vacant council seat. They are:

  • Charles P. Gaylor, IV
  • Phyllis A. Merritt-James

City Clerk Laura Getz and City Manager Tim Salmon plan to look over the applications and verify each applicant meets the qualifications next week.

The Goldsboro City Council plans to interview the applicants at the October 4th meeting.

The council may then appoint the next District 5 representative at its meeting on October 18th.

The District 5 vacancy occurred when David Ham was appointed to serve as Mayor of the City of Goldsboro.

The selected individual will serve for the remainder of the term, until the winner of the November 7, 2023 election is sworn in.
