Democko To Step Down From Wayne County Board Of Education

A member of the Wayne County Board of Education announces his resignation.

At the conclusion of Monday’s meeting, District 5 representative and Vice-Chair Joe Democko announced he was stepping down from the school board due to family health matters.

Democko says he will be having to spend time in New York to help care for his mother who recently received a “terrible diagnosis.”

As part of his resignation statement, Democko said he believes the district is better prepared for its future, thanks to the hard work of the board and WCPS staff.

Democko says it’s been a great honor serving on the Wayne County Board of Education and serving the citizens of Wayne County.

School Board Chair Chris West expressed his gratitude for Democko’s service.

West says he appreciated Democko’s “voice of reason on the board.”

Democko’s resignation is effective as of October 1st.
