Elouise Barnes Hollifield Puryear, 88, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Wayne UNC Health Care. Born in Wayne County on September 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bennett Barnes, Sr. and Irene Adams Barnes.

In addition to her parents, Elouise was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Wayne Hollifield; son-in-law, Michael Johnson; and brother, Bennett Barnes, Jr.

Elouise is survived by her daughter, Wanda P. Johnson; son, William James Hollifield and wife, Nan; grandchildren, Scott Hollifield, Jamie Hollifield, Shannon Pascua; Chasity Richardson, Tracey McCullough, Caroline Tapley, and Sarah Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Elouise had a magnetic personality and was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She loved spending time with her family and doting over her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Elouise had worked at Wake Memorial Hospital and later at Flowers Baking Company in Raleigh. She later volunteered with WAGES Foster Grandparent Program at Edgewood School. Elouise was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Zebulon.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Elouise’s life at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Andy Stovall officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Zebulon.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wayne County Services on Aging and her caregiver for the last five years, Janice Hathaway for the loving care provided to Elouise.
