WCPS Works To Address Bus Driver Shortage

Scattered bus delays have greeted some WCPS students as the new school year gets underway.  Wayne County Public Schools has confirmed the district is down 17 drivers to start the 2021-2022 school year.

To help reduce or prevent delays from occurring, some schools are utilizing staff that are licensed to drive buses. District transportation route managers are driving bus routes in some instances. Several individuals are in the process of completing the final requirements to drive a school bus for WCPS, which will help with the shortage.

Wayne County Public Schools is hiring bus drivers.  Starting pay for bus drivers is $14.19 per hour. Bus driving classes will be offered in September. Interested applicants can learn more by clicking here.
