August 21, 2021, 88, Mount Olive –

Mavis Arlene Bell Powell, age 88 passed away at the home of her son, Robert. Born in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late Lem and Isadora Bell and wife of the late James Robert Powell, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Frances Carter, and her sisters, Dorothy Carol and Brenda Parsons.

Mrs. Powell was a member of Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended the Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Jimmy Whitfield officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home prior to the service.

She is survived by her children, James Samuel Powell, Robert Gary Powell and  his wife, Kay, and Teresa  Ann Worley and husband, Rick; her son in law, Ronnie Carter; grandchildren, Stacey Leigh Powell, Chelsea “Brooke” Preddy and husband, Gordon; great grandchildren, Palmer Preddy and Axel and Alexis; her sisters, Billie Faye Hatch and husband, Rex, Christine B. Tigunelis, and Jean Carol Hobbs; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other special loved ones and her church family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations of remembrance may be directed to Thunder Swamp P.H. Church, 1519 Thunder Swamp Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
