Area Roundup For Tuesday, Aug. 17

The Goldsboro volleyball team opened its season with a 25-19, 25-14, 26-24 against county rival Southern Wayne on Tuesday evening.

Anna Summerlini logged three kills and seven aces to lead Southern Wayne, and Allie Lane finished the game with eight assists, five digs and four aces.

Southern Wayne and Goldsboro will both return to the volleyball court on Thursday. Goldsboro travels to C.B. Aycock (2-0), and Southern Wayne will travel to Eastern Wayne.

Wake Christian Academy 3, Wayne Country Day 0

Wake Christian Academy filed a straight-sets triumph over Wayne Country Day on Tuesday by a 25-10, 25-10, 25-14 mark.

The Chargers were paced by Kate Hunter, who had eight digs and nine assists. Jordin Whitney contributed five kills, while AbbeHarris had two aces.

The loss drops Wayne Country Day to 2-2 overall. Wayne Country next hosts Fayetteville Academy (1-0) on Monday.

 

Boys’ soccer

Cape Fear Academy 4, Wayne Country Day 2

Andrew Sherman scored two goals, while Preston Barnes and Anthony Valentine both had one assist apiece, but the Chargers dropped a game against Cape Fear Academy.

Wayne Country Day (1-1 overall) next heads to Rocky Mount on Thursday for a game against Rocky Mount Academy.

 

Southern Wayne 7, Eastern Wayne 2

Southern Wayne won its season opener against county rival Eastern Wayne 7-2 on Tuesday evening.

The two teams will face off again on Monday.
