Pearline Evans Strickland Draughon

Pearline Evans Strickland Draughon, 90 years young of King, NC, previously of the Goldsboro area, received her call to come home to Heaven on Saturday, July 31, 2021. She was able to enter the pearly gates of Heaven to meet her Heavenly Father as well as her awaiting family. She was born in Wayne County on September 9, 1930 to late Lonnie and Ruby Evans. She married James Strickland on November 21, 1945. They were married happily for 47 years until his death in 1992. Then a second chance at love with Ruben Draughon whom she married on August 13, 1993 until his death in 1999. She retired after working many years from Chase Laundry in Goldsboro.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 noon at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Pearline will be remembered for her cooking, her love of working in the yard, and most of all her love for her family. She was the one in the family to always make sure that her loved ones had beautiful flowers on their graves. She sometimes would put flowers on a person’s grave that she did not even know.

Pearline is survived by her daughter, Susan Brinegar, granddaughter, Tammy Brinegar of King, NC, great-granddaughter, Marilyn Pegram of Mount Airy, NC and 3 great-great grandchildren. She also had a bonus granddaughter, Melissa Porter.

Pearline was preceded in death by many of her loved ones which included her father and mother, Lonnie and Ruby Evans, her brothers, Lonnie Ralph Evans, Gene Autry Evans and sister, Lottie Joyce Herring, son-in-law, Joe Brinegar, and niece Mary Catherine DeStefano.
