Marvin Louis Baker, 92, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Marvin was born in Mitchell County, NC on February 16, 1929 to the late Horace Baker and Bertie Estelle Buchanan Baker. He was a longtime member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro.

Marvin Proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after serving over 20 years of dedicated and faithful service.

A service to celebrate Marvin’s life will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Sauls officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Marvin is survived by his granddaughter, Melody Joyann Smiling and husband Dean; and great-grandchildren, Kian Smiling and River Smiling. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Duncan and husband, Bob and a special niece, Darlene Mabrey and husband, Corkey. Marvin is also survived by his brothers, Luther Baker and wife Nelda, and Bill Baker and wife Peggy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Virginia Childress Baker; daughter, Karen Baker; son, Keith Baker; great-grandson, Joah Smiling; brothers Lee Baker and Lane Baker; and sister, Edith Sullins.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1086 NC Hwy 111 South, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
