J. D. Pate, 76, Faison area resident, passed away Friday morning, July 30, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

J. D. was well known in the area as having been a plumber associated with Buddy Brock’s Plumbing Co. before beginning his own business, Pate’s Plumbing and Repair. He had been a volunteer fireman with at least 35 years of dedicated service, first with Faison Fire Department and lastly with Calypso Fire Department. J. D. worshiped his Lord at Bear Marsh Baptist Church. He was known to be an avid outdoorsman, particularly when it was deer hunting season.

J. D. is survived by his wife, Marty Ann Sautter Pate; a son, Judson D. Pate, Jr. of Faison; two daughters, Amanda Pate of Wilmington, and Deborah Pate with partner, Mary Conrad, of Vero Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Graylon Patterson and Anna Grace Patterson, both of Wilmington, and Mikaela Patterson of Greenville; two sisters, Marilyn Pate Roberts and Kathy Pate Jones, both of Faison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Thelma Winders Pate; two sisters, Carolyn Pate Odom and Jewell Pate Paige; and a brother, Roba Pate.

A SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE WILL BE HELD FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 2021 AT 7:00 P.M. AT BEAR MARSH BAPTIST CHURCH, OFFICIATED BY THE REV. PAUL ROSE, WITH A TIME OF VISITATION TO FOLLOW.
