LuElla Joyce Sanders Gwaltney, 85, died at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, July 19, 2021. Joyce was born in Johnston County, NC on June 4, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Morgan and Kizzie Martin Sanders. She was the fourth of six children.

Joyce was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. Out of all of her accomplishments, being a mother and grandmother was her greatest joy. She was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed going to all the races with her special friends, Ken and Myrna Jones.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Mrs. Gwaltney. A graveside service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rudy West presiding.

Joyce is survived by her two sons, Joe Dan Gwaltney and wife Teresa and Jarvis Wayne Gwaltney and wife Gayle, all of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jarvis Wayne Gwaltney, Jr. of Goldsboro, Morgan Lee Gwaltney and wife Sara of Pinehurst, Samuel Jake Gwaltney of Goldsboro, Stephanie Conway Lack and husband Matt of Goldsboro and Joanna Pippin and husband, Greg of Goldsboro; great-grandchildren, Emma Smith, Brody, Isabelle and Harrison Lack, Abbey Beavers, and Aaron and Makenzie Pippin. She is also survived by her sister, Latitia Caprell; sisters-in-law, Anna Frank Radford and Sara Sasser; and brother-in-law, Morris Ray Davis; and several nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

In addition to her mother and father, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jarvis Lee Gwaltney; sisters, Mary Uzzell and Carolyn Howell; and brothers, Ralph Sanders and Roy Sanders.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of 3HC for the care, compassion and excellent skills given to Joyce throughout her illness and journey home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to 3HC of Wayne County or The Gideons International through Calvary Baptist Church, Goldsboro, NC.
