Cynthia Lynn Smith “Cindy” Gurley, 56, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by her family. Born in Johnston County on May 21, 1965, she was the daughter of Virginia Fitzgerald “Jennie” Smith the late James Linwood “Buck” Smith.

In addition to her mother, Cindy is survived by her husband, of 29 years, Jeffrey Gurley; daughter, Mary-Catherine Talton and husband, Bryan; sons, Nick Gurley and wife, Madison and Joseph Gurley; grandchildren, Ella-Rose Talton, Eleanor Gurley, Gibson Gurley, Callahan Gurley, and J.L. Gurley; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cindy loved being outdoors, traveling with her husband, planting flowers, and tending her garden. She enjoyed photography and always welcomed a chance to snap a picture. Cindy had a servant’s heart and was always there for others in their time of need. She loved her church family and was a dedicated and faithful member of Faith Church. Family was paramount to Cindy, her role as wife, mother, and “Nana” brought her a lifetime of joy and happiness.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Faith Church, followed by a service to celebrate her life in the sanctuary with Rev. Christian Powell and Rev. Dan Patrick officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Cindy’s memory may be sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
