Francis Carroll Hoover, 84, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his home.

Carroll was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on November 27, 1936 to the late Walter Roscoe Hoover and Nancy Young Hoover. He lived his dream proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. Carroll will always be remembered for his patriotism. He retired after 26 years of service with the Air Force as Senior Master Sergeant. Carroll’s valor and skill was recognized with numerous decorations.

A graveside service will be held in Carroll’s hometown of Salisbury on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro with full military honors. Carroll will lie in state on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

Carroll is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marie Gurganus Hoover; daughter, Yvonne Templeton and husband Barry; daughter, Barbara Hoover; grandchildren, Whitney Templeton, Caitlin Templeton and Anna Templeton; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Greyson and Maddox.

In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Reed Hoover.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Carroll’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
