Eleanor Ruth Hartley Lupton, 91, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Eleanor was born in Lenoir County on May 29, 1930 to James Cecil Hartley and Maggie Oleta Mixon Hartley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Luther James Lupton; son, Charles L. Lupton; granddaughter, Christy Williams; grandson, Brandon Lupton; great-granddaughter, Finnleigh Allen; brother, Kenneth Howard Hartley; and sister, Geraldine Hartley.

Eleanor had been employed as an elementary teacher’s assistant with both Pitt and Wayne County Public Schools. She was a member of Pleasant Grove O.F.W.B. Church. Her most important career was being a pastor’s wife, where she used her many talents to share the love of God. Above everything, Eleanor was known for being a dedicated pastor’s wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a fervent follower of Christ.

A service to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Stallings and Rev. John Hill officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday in the hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of April and Tim Wilson, 116 SW Railroad Street, Pikeville. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Joan L. Allen and husband George of Pikeville, Judy L. Williams and husband Wayne of Ayden; daughter-in-law, Starr Lupton of Goldsboro; sister, Dianne Martin of Ernul; brothers, James C. Hartley Jr. of Ernul, Charles Q. Hartley of Snow Camp and Terry P. Hartley of Fort Myers, FL; six grandchildren, Scott Allen, April Wilson, Jeffrey Allen, Chris Williams, Stephen Williams and Melissa Gretten; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
