Goldsboro is looking for its next mayor.
At Monday’s meeting, the Goldsboro City Council set the timeline for appointing the new mayor, as read by Councilman David Ham.
The dates for selecting the new mayor include:
- July 23 – 5 PM deadline for applications to be turned in at the City Clerk’s Office
- August 2 – Council will hear presentations by applicants
- August 16 – Council will vote to select next mayor
City Attorney Ron Lawrence says current council members will be able to apply for the mayoral position.
However, to avoid a financial conflict of interest, Lawrence says council members will not be able to vote to appoint themselves.
Former Mayor Chuck Allen stepped down in June to focus on his health.
