Time for ALL People 12 and Older to Receive the COVID-19 Vaccine
Our Wayne County Health Department staff have determined that just over 50% of our 12 years and older population, through a combination of vaccination and contracting COVID-19 infection, have some immunity to COVID-19 virus. If we are to protect our county from a new COVID-19 outbreak, we must get our collective immunity above the 70% level. The Delta Variant of COVID-19 is on the rise, and it is more contagious than the original virus. We need for ALL eligible people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. If not, many of the at-risk people in our county may suffer unnecessarily from the effects of COVID-19 infection.
The US experience with COVID-19 vaccine has been extremely successful with less than 1% of COVID-related deaths occurring in vaccinated patients.
There has been much vaccine hesitancy among young women. Now we have research showing that a pregnant woman who develops COVID-19 infection is more likely to deliver prematurely, have a smaller birth-weight baby, and is 22 more times more likely to die during pregnancy.
If you think you were better off BEFORE COVID-19, and you want to make sure your at-risk friends and family members do not suffer unnecessarily from COVID-19 infection, you must receive COVID-19 vaccine now, and encourage all your family and friends to do likewise.
You can find a COVID vaccination clinic near you at vaccines.gov or vacunas.gov (Espanol), or you can text your zip code to 438829 (GETVAX) or 822862 (VACUNA (Espanol)). COVID vaccines are free to all persons 12 years of age and older, regardless of insurance or immigration status.
