Wayne County’s Unemployment Rate Remains Halved From One Year Ago

Wayne County’s unemployment rate ticks up slightly but remains relatively stable.  According to the latest figures from the N.C. Department of Commerce, Wayne County’s seasonally unadjusted jobless rate increased to 4.7% in May.  That’s up one-tenth of a point from the 4.6% unemployment rate recorded in April.  Wayne County’s jobless rate remains well-improved from one year ago.  In May of 2020, Wayne County’s unemployment rate was 10.5% as many businesses slowed their operations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
