PHONE SCAM: Caller Pretends To Be With Sheriff’s Office

A person is pretending to be a sheriff’s officer in the latest phone scam sweeping the area.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says it had received numerous calls on Monday reporting the scam phone calls.  The scam caller identifies themselves as someone from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and attempts to convince you that you failed to appear for jury duty.  The caller then wants you to pay a bond or fine over the phone.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reminds it will never call and ask you to pay money over the phone for bonds or fines.  The Sheriff’s Office also states it, nor any other government agency, will call and ask you to pay for something with a pre-paid Visa card or similar means.

Anyone receiving one of these scam phone calls is advised to just hang up.
