WCC Trustees Discuss Hiring Next College President

Wayne Community College is ready to find its next leader.

The WCC Board of Trustees met Tuesday evening and discussed the first steps for finding a replacement for President Dr. Thomas A. Walker Jr., who is stepping down on July 23rd.

WCC Board of Trustees Chair Donald Barnes says most would say selecting the next president will take 6 – 9 months, but he thinks it can be completed in roughly four months.

Barnes says he takes the task very seriously after the college had such success with its last seven presidents.

The board will have its search committee look into hiring an outside firm for helping select the next WCC President.

The committee may also decide to keep the process in-house.

Dr. Walker has been WCC’s president since September of 2016.

He’s moving on to become the Senior Advisor for Economic Development and Military Affairs for the University of North Carolina System.
