A Saturday morning kayak trip on the Neuse River turned into a dangerous ordeal.  The five kayakers set out to cruise the Neuse in the Johnston and Wayne County area.  The four persons and their guide put their kayaks in at Richardson Bridge in Johnston County and started their trip down the river when one of the craft started taking on water and capsized.  The person in that kayak managed to make it to the bank and called 911 for help.  Johnston County dispatched its water team, and the Grantham Fire Department and Arr-Mac Water Rescue Team also responded to assist in the search for the kayakers.  The Johnson County Water Team eventually located the kayaker along the bank and brought him back to Richardson Bridge.  The four other kayakers were found by the Grantham and Arr-Mac teams and were escorted down to the Ferry Bridge boat ramp.  The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Wayne County EMS were on standby during the search and rescue operation.
