Flash Flood Watch Issued For Wayne County, Surrounding Area

How quickly conditions can change when Mother Nature is involved.

Last week at this time, Wayne County was listed in “Moderate Drought” and a burn ban was in place.  Now the burn ban has been lifted by the county and N.C. Forest Service, and a Flash Flood Watch is in place for Wayne County from noon today until late tonight.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rain, are expected through the rest of the day with another 1 – 3 inches of rainfall possible.  Low-lying areas near creeks, streams, rivers, and locations with poor drainage could become inundated with floodwater and inaccessible.  Flooding of roadways and road closures are also possible.

Remember: Never attempt to drive through a water-covered roadway.  Turn Around and Don’t Drown.
