City Says Untreated Wastewater Reached Low-Lying Area Near I-795

The City of Goldsboro discovered a discharge of untreated water on Friday, May 28, from a failed section of their sewer force main located at 1100 W. Grantham Street and I-795. After assessing the area surrounding the discharge and lift station pump data, it is estimated that roughly 13,600 gallons was discharged to surrounding low-lying areas. A downstream fecal coliform sample was taken from nearby drainage ditches and is awaiting results.  The NC DEQ has been notified.

General Statue 143–215.1C(b)(1) requires the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment work to issue a press release in the event of an untreated wastewater discharge of 1000 gallons or more to the surface waters of the State.

In accordance with the regulations, this news release has been prepared and issued to the media of Wayne County.
