George Bourbon Ivey, Jr., 86, was promoted to his heavenly reward on Friday, May 14, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Wayne County to George Bourbon Ivey, Sr. and Ruth Fitzgerald Ivey on March 12, 1935.

Exhibiting a strong work ethic and a passion to serve his fellow man, Bourbon proudly worked as a truck driver with Jenkins Gas and as a farmer on the family farm. Bourbon served his country in the United States Army and his community as a firefighter with the Grantham Fire Department. He began worshiping with his family at Selah Christian Church as a young boy and continued to be a faithful member.

The family will receive friends at Selah Christian Church from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 followed by a service to celebrate Bourbon’s life at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Patrick Muston and Pastor Arthur Warren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dennis Sutton of Mount Olive; niece, Renee Winkler and husband Michael of Duluth, GA; nephew, Dennis Sutton, Jr. and wife Heather of Newton Grove; great-nieces, Callie and Jennah Sutton, Abby Winkler; and a great-nephew, Justin Winkler.

Bourbon’s family would like to acknowledge the staff of Community Hospice, particularly Crystal Sutton, as well as his friends, Betty West and Jay Barnette, and the staff at Brookdale Country Day Road, who had a profound impact on the quality of Bourbon’s life in recent years.
