Mary Alice Foyles Hill

Mary Alice Foyles Hill

May 10, 2021, 90, La Grange –

Mary Alice Foyles Hill, 90, was greeted at the Heavenly gates by her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, May 10, 2021. Mary was born in Lenoir County to the late George T. Foyles, Sr. and Ila Harrison Foyles on September 23, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Hill; and siblings, Harriet Blizzard and George Thomas Foyles, Jr.

Possessing a deep love for nature, Mary spent every minute possible outdoors. Weather permitting, you could find her either relaxing on her swing or working hard in the garden. Mary could grow anything, but she focused her gifts on vegetable gardening. Growing flowers was not her passion; if it couldn’t be eaten, it was a waste of time.

Always keeping up with current events, Mary loved watching the cable news channels. She also looked forward to each new edition of The National Enquirer, Globe, and People and read them with eagerness.

There was no better time spent for Mary than her time reading and studying the Bible. For her, it was the only book that was worth reading, and with it she spent many hours in devotion with her Lord.

Mary’s beautiful smile and loving spirit endeared her to all she met. For most, Mary was known to be quiet and reflective, but anyone that ever got her riled up knew that Mary could put you in your place when needed.

With a strong will, fervent work ethic, and a little bossiness, Mary helped out at the family hog farm. She was the best supervisor and practically ran the whole operation, making sure that everything worked out just right.

Nobody could love Mary more than her son, George Herbert. A true mama’s boy, he focused his attention on her every need. Of course, the affection was reciprocated as the sun rose and set for Mary in the life of her son and grandson. She even rode on the back of George Herbert’s Harley-Davidson from time to time just to enjoy their time together.

A time of visitation and fellowship will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held privately for the family.

Mary is survived by her devoted son, George Herbert Hill and wife, Luvoise “Puddin” Hill; grandson, George Herbert Hill, Jr.; sister, Vider Adelphia Hughes; and a special niece and caregiver, Melba Speight.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
