Commissioners Narrowly Back Teachers’ Resolution For Students

Wayne County teachers are looking for support as they seek to improve conditions for students.

At last week’s Wayne County Board meeting, Tiffany Kilgore, the President of the Wayne County Association of Educators, presented the group’s resolution which she called a “wish list.”

Kilgore says the county needs to reinvest back into WCPS to ensure “career prepared readiness” for students.

Commissioner Antonio Williams thanked the WCAE for thinking about the teachers, bus drivers and custodians.

Commissioner Joe Daughtery says he understands the school needs, but he could not agree to some of the listed items.

In a narrow 4 – 3 vote, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved the WCAE’s Resolution to Improve Student Learning Conditions.

The goal of the resolution is to pressure legislative officials to pass education reinvestment bills.

Also last week, the Wayne County Board of Education would not approve allowing the WCAE resolution onto its meeting agenda.

The full resolution can be viewed below.
