Pollen Season Arrives Late In N.C.

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS  NETWORK) — Spring has arrived, and so has pollen season. State Climatologist Corey Davis tells us that the pollen season has started later than usual.  Davis says that colder temperatures in February led to a slightly delayed start to the pollen season. Particularly, the pine pollen season was delayed due to cooler February temps.  Pine pollen is the fine dusty pollen many are accustomed to seeing.  Davis says the prevalence of pollen will vary depending on whether there’s enough rainfall to wash it away. According to a formula devised by researchers, the 2019 pine pollen season started on February 27. In 2020, the season began on March 8.
