Wayne County’s unemployment rate ticks up according to the latest figures from the state. The N.C. Department of Commerce says Wayne County’s seasonally unadjusted jobless rate increased to 6.3% in January. That’s up just slightly from the 6.2% rate recorded in December. When comparing year-to-year, the latest jobless figures also show a significant increase from the 3.8% unemployment rate recorded in Wayne County in January of 2020 before pandemic restrictions began. Statewide, unemployment rates decreased in 62 North Carolina County’s in January.
