Officials Offer Proper Burning Tips Heading Into Spring

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — March through May is considered spring fire season and state officials are warning people to be careful. State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler says there are some precautionary measures people can take when burning debris. He says do not put the vegetation on ground that will burn.  The burning material needs to be placed in a clean area inside a clean receptacle that is clear of overhead branches and wires.  Keep the burning pile small.  Troxler reminds people to obtain a burning permit.  The Forest Service encourages residents to contact their local county forest ranger for technical advice and options to help ensure the safety of people, property and the forest.
