WayneCAN Asks Lawmakers To Support Solutions For Kids During Pandemic

The Wayne Child Advocacy Network is asking legislators to help the state’s youngest residents.  On Friday, WayneCAN sent a letter to local members of the General Assembly, Rep. John Bell, Rep. Raymond Smith and Sen. Jim Perry.  The letter notes “the negative effects of the pandemic on Wayne County Children continue to add up and proactive solutions from the NC General Assembly are crucial” for long-term recovery.  The WayneCAN members go on to ask the legislators to:

  • Extend postpartum coverage for Medicaid recipients from six weeks to one year
  • Increase recurring funding for school nurses, psychologists, social workers, and counselors in North Carolina
  • Increase salary compensation for early childhood educators
  • Support a statewide affordable housing bond

Signers of the WayneCAN letter include the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee; Dr. David M. Lewis, Interim Superintendent of Wayne County Public Schools; WAGES, Inc.; and others.
