David Harold “Hap” Ellis

March 14, 2021, 90, Goldsboro –

David Harold “Hap” Ellis, 90, crossed the threshold of life to rest in his eternal home in the heavens on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Hap was born in Wayne County to the late Herman W. and Ruby Rose Ellis on February 9, 1931.

Hap retired after a 30-year career with the US Postal Service. During this time, he seemed to know everyone in town and everyone in the town knew him, too. His first occupation, however, was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop a tractor on the family farm. With a deep faith, Hap worshiped with the congregation of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Pine Forest United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by a service to celebrate Hap’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Harold is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Martha Ann Gurley Ellis; daughters, Janice Ellis of Greenville and Meredith Ellis of Blounts Creek; son, David Ellis, Jr. and wife Janie of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Peter Ellis and Mark Ellis and wife Cheryl; and great-granddaughter, Morgan Zumbaugh and husband Chuck. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn Thompson of Goldsboro and Cleone Ellis of Charlotte.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman Ellis and George Ellis; and sisters, Dorothy Perkins, Ruth Best, Sarah Avery and Rose Kornegay.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in his memory to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 NC Hwy. 581 South, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
