Retha Smith Peele, 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Willow Creek Nursing & Rehab. Born in Wayne County on May 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Arzella Smith.

Retha worked in sales with Wholesale Fabrics in Goldsboro. She possessed a green thumb and loved working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Retha enjoyed traveling from the mountains to the Carolina coast and the occasional trip to Montana to visit and travel with her sister. She attended Hood Swamp Friends Church.

A service to celebrate Retha’s life will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Smith Family Cemetery on Hood Swamp Road. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. Those attending the services are asked to wear a facial covering and practice social distancing measures.

Retha is survived by her son, Michael Peele and wife, Linda; daughter, Becky Peele; grandsons, Adam Peele and Mark Peele; sisters, Ada Belle Smith Reeves and Annie Smith Rollins; a special friend, Dorothy Mason; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Bob” Peele; daughter, Vickie Lanette Peele; four brothers; and five sisters.
