Rosalie Strickland Surles, age 87, of the Grantham Community, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Columbus Isaac and Alice Taylor Strickland. Rose was a member of Eureka Christian Church where she has served as a youth leader and the CWF. She was a member of Woodman of the World and a former 4-H leader. She retired from the Wayne County Public Schools where she served for many years as the cafeteria manager at Grantham School. Rose loved to play the piano and enjoyed hosting social events with her church and community families.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Family members will greet friends in the church fellowship hall from 6:00 until 6:45 pm. A committal service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Wayne Memorial Park.

Rose is survived by her children, Ray Keen and wife, Lee Ann, Kay Anthony and husband, Robin, and Faye Barefoot; her grandchildren, Crystal Keen Roberts and husband, Richard, Ashley Barefoot, Randi Barefoot, and Paul Anthony and wife, Annie; her great grandchildren, Sloane Roberts, Hayden Anthony, Paul Ray Anthony, Jr., Shyanne Bullock, and D.J. Stokes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Grantham Volunteer Fire Department, 3430 US Hwy. 13S, Goldsboro, NC 27530 or to the Carlisle Purvis Scholarship Fund c/o Eureka Christian Church, 2036 Dobbersville Road, Mt. Olive, NC 28365.
