Iris Ann O’Berry, age 77, of the Grantham area, Mount Olive, passed away at the home she shared with a daughter and son-in-law. Death came for her on Saturday evening, January 16, 2021.

Iris was a member of the Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church of Mount Olive and was reared in its vicinity.

She is survived by her children, Ginger Thompson Carter and husband, Nathan, of the home, Joseph Arnette and wife, Shannon, of Mount Olive, and Kim Morris and friend, Ben Price, of Rosewood; a brother, Benjamin James “Jimmy” O’Berry, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Randy Thompson, Nita Thompson Jones, Kevin Pennington, Ken Pennington, Beth Raynor, Kirsten Aycock, and Zander Morris; and great-grandchildren, Chandler and Sofia Pennington, Ricki Lane, Michael Jones, Abigail Thompson, and Macey Thompson.

Also surviving are a step-sister, Jane Booth of Turkey, and a step-brother, George Pinyatello, also of Turkey; her best friend, Vickie Johnson of Dudley; and a special friend of the family, Valerie Green and all of her family.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Avon Thompson; her father, Benjamin James O’Berry; her mother, Thelma Barwick O’Berry Pinyatello; a sister, Mignonette O’Berry Spurgeon; and a sister-in-law, Lori O’Berry.

A graveside service to remember Iris will be conducted Thursday, January 21, at 2 p.m. in the Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Dennis Pollock. The family will greet friends at the cemetery, and at other times, the home of Ginger and Nathan Carter is welcoming to friends and family.
