Dorothy Sullivan Blizzard

Dorothy Sullivan Blizzard went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2021. Dorothy was born in Lenoir County, NC on March 7, 1935. Her family moved to Wayne County when she was a child, and she became a lifetime resident. She was gracious, giving, humble, kind and will always be loved and cherished by her family and friends. She was short in stature but strong in spirit and determination. She was the “ backbone” of her family and the “wind beneath the wings” of her children.

Dorothy was a farmer, working alongside her beloved husband, Dick and also worked for many years in the textile and manufacturing industries. She enjoyed gardening and took pleasure in freezing and canning the fruits of her labor. She was an excellent “southern” cook and everyone who graced her table never left disappointed. She was devoted to her faith and cherished the fellowship with her church family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon “Dick” Blizzard, her grandson, Robby Dean Blizzard, and her parents, Harvey Sullivan, Sr. and Minnie Hill Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, George, Wayne and Frank Sullivan and her sisters, Ida
Hall and Ellen Blizzard.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday at 1:00 pm by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Ricky Sullivan officiating. Family members will remain to greet friends at the grave.

She is survived by her sons, Danny and Wanda Blizzard of Pikeville, Floyd and Faye Blizzard of Fremont and her daughter, Delilah and Eddie Fisher of Lake Lure, NC. She is also survived by grandsons, Richard and Angie Blizzard of Mt. Olive, Steven and Laura Blizzard of Pikeville, Philip Suggs of Blacksburg, SC, and granddaughter, Virginia and Robbie Taylor of Fremont. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Maverick, Piper and Cheridan Blizzard of Pikeville, Michael and Matthew Taylor of Fremont, Hailey Suggs of Huntersville, NC; brothers, Harvey Sullivan, Jr. of Pikeville, Charley Sullivan of Portsmouth, VA; sisters in law, Helen Sullivan of Jason, Evelyn Blizzard Stith of Pikeville; special friend, Shirley Best of Pikeville and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Fremont Holiness Church, 726 Norwayne School Rd, Fremont, NC 27830.
