GFD About One-Third Of The Way Toward Restoring 1919 Fire Engine

The effort continues to rehabilitate a piece of Goldsboro firefighting history.

The Goldsboro Fire Department has been working to restore its 1919 LaFrance fire engine.

Goldsboro Fire Chief Joe Dixon says they’ve collected approximately $20,000 for the antique fire engine.

Dixon says, once rehabilitated, the 1919 can be used in parades or end of service ceremonies for fallen firefighters.

Goldsboro Deputy Fire Chief James Farfour estimates refurbishing the 1919 LaFrance may cost up to, and even exceed, $60,000.

Farfour says residents his age may remember Santa Claus riding in the historic fire engine during the city’s Christmas parade years ago.

The Goldsboro Fire Department has been seeking donations from the community to help with the restoration efforts.

Information on making a donation for the Goldsboro Fire Department’s 1919 LaFrance fire engine can be found on the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation’s website.
