Tillie Mae Tart Oliver, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at UNC Rex Healthcare surrounded by her family.

Tillie was born in Wayne County on July 8, 1936 to the late Lisker Tart and Minnie Mae Denning Tart. She was married to the late Billy Ray Oliver for 46 years. She was a graduate of Grantham High School and furthered her education at East Carolina University. She began her career as a fourth-grade teacher at Rosewood Elementary School where she touched many lives. She retired after 32 dedicated years of teaching. Tillie was a faithful member of Oakland Community Church where she loved her church family dearly. She was also a long-time member of the Oakland Grange spending numerous days at the Wayne County Fair. She never missed any camping trips with family and friends, ballgames, or music shows, and she loved sitting outside in the swing. Tillie’s love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did.

A service to celebrate Tillie’s life will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. The family respectfully reminds those attending the service to practice social distancing guidelines. Respects can be made on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Oakland Community Church.

Tillie is survived by her three children, son, Billy and Robbin Oliver, daughter, Lisa and Jeff Ingram, and daughter, Amy and Ricky Smith; grandchildren, Brandon Ray Oliver (Nikki), Anna Ingram Tucker (Preston), Andrew Oliver Ingram, Aaron Jeffrey Ingram, and Collyn Cleat Smith; a very special friend, Jo Fail; several special nieces and nephews; and a large and loving extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Oliver; sister, Sarah Lewis; twin brother, Billy Tart; and brother, John Tart.
