Dr. Tripuraneni L. Perumallu, age 81, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020. Born in Angaluru, Andhra Pradesh, India on November 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Tripuraneni Sarvanamma and the late Tripuraneni Venkateswararao.

Perumallu, as he was known to his family and friends, graduated from Andhra Medical College, and completed his medical training in India, England, and the U.S. He worked in the Midwest, including several years as Chief of Psychiatry at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Danville, Illinois. He and his wife Devi moved to Goldsboro, NC in 1978 where he worked for more than 20 years as a staff psychiatrist at Cherry Hospital. He was a devoted and hard-working husband, father, grandfather, and doctor. He was a voracious reader, a deep thinker, an avid conversationalist, and a generous human being. He befriended people from all walks of life. Nothing gave him more joy than helping those in need, whether through medical advice, spiritual wisdom, or lending a patient and unprejudiced ear.

A private memorial service will be held Sunday, December, 13, 2020 at Seymour Funeral Home with Hindu priest Porna from S.V. Temple officiating. His family hopes to celebrate Dr. Perumallu’s extraordinary life with a larger gathering of his innumerable loving friends, colleagues, and extended family members in the future.

Dr. Perumallu is survived by his wife Dr. Anjana Devi Perumallu; daughters, Deepa Kirk and husband Jason, and Rekha Perumallu and husband Patrick Mucklow; and grandchildren Arun Kirk, Uma Kirk, and Anika Mucklow. He is also survived by many affectionate relatives and lifelong friends. His loved ones’ presence and accomplishments were a great source of happiness to him.
