County Board Reorganizes, Welcomes New Members

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners is ready to begin its next term with four new members.

With limited family and friends in attendance, the seven commissioners were sworn in during a ceremony at The Maxwell Center on Monday.

Before administering the oath of office, Superior Court Judge Will Bland took a moment to remember the three members the county board lost this year – commissioners John M. Bell, A. Joe Gurley, III, and E. Ray Mayo.

The newest commissioners on the board include:

  • Barbara Aycock, representing District 1
  • Antonio Williams representing District 2
  • Bevan Foster, representing District 3
  • Chris Gurley, representing District 5.

NOTE: Barbara Aycock had already been sworn in as a replacement for Commissioner E. Ray Mayo who passed away unexpectedly before the November 3rd election.

During the reorganization meeting, At-Large Commissioner Wayne Aycock was elected the chair of the county board and District 4 Commissioner Freeman Hardison was elected the board’s vice-chair.
