There have been good times and bad times in 2020.
That’s the assessment from Wayne County Board of Commissioners Chair Joe Daughtery in his State of the Community address last week.
Daughtery first noted the loss of three commissioners on the county board.
He says Barbara Aycock was just selected to fill the District 1 seat left vacant by the death of Commissioner E. Ray Mayo.
When discussing the county’s economic outlook, Daughtery noted that the county’s sales tax revenues actually increased despite the pandemic.
Daughtery says the new corporate hangar will provide a boost at the Wayne Regional Jetport.
At long last, Daughtery was able to announce that the county has secured a new hotel for next to The Maxwell Center.
The Hilton-brand hotel will also feature convention space and a bistro.
The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held its annual State of the Community event on Facebook last week Thursday.
