The Arts Council of Wayne County welcomes the return of its annual Gingerbread House Contest and Exhibit this month. RE/MAX Complete is sponsoring the event.
“We’re excited to partner with RE/Max again this year to host the gingerbread house events, which have become a popular holiday tradition for local families throughout the years,” said Georgia Dees, Arts Council executive director. “It’s a creative way to get into the Christmas spirit, and we look forward to seeing what crazy ideas people come up with for 2020!”
All entries will be on display at the Arts Council from Nov. 24 until Dec. 5, and a winner in each age group will win $50! The age categories are:
- Ages 6-10 (adult supervision allowed)
- Ages 11-17
- Ages 18 and up
The cost to enter the competition is $20 per entry.
There also will be a separate category for professional bakers and cake decorators; however, no prizes will be awarded in this category. This will give local professionals an opportunity to display their work and business information for promotional purposes. (A professional is defined as any person who is employed as a culinary professional, including chefs, bakers, pastry chefs or individuals who bake and/or decorate cakes for sale.) The cost for professionals is $20 per entry.
To help people refresh their skills, the Arts Council will host two Gingerbread House workshops prior to the contest: Saturday, Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 22, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The Arts Council will provide the houses and a variety of candy decorations. Participants may bring addition food items to use for decoration if they choose. The cost for the workshop is $20 per person and includes entry into the contest.
Registration is required by Nov. 19. Space is limited for the workshops, and we will be following social distancing guidelines, including wearing masks. Grab some friends and start planning your gingerbread creations now!
