The Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Christmas parade in downtown Mount Olive on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. Parade applications are now available at the Mount Olive Chamber office (123 N. Center Street) and on the chamber website (www.moachamber.com). The deadline to submit applications is November 20th. Entries received after November 20th will be assessed a $30 late fee.
The Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce stresses that social distancing must be practiced and wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged for all parade participants and spectators to reduce the risks of exposure to COVID-19. Those who have experienced symptoms associated with COVID-19 or been exposed to someone with symptoms are asked to not participate or attend the parade.
A homemade float competition will be held during the Christmas parade. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be recognized. In addition, there will be a fire truck competition, and one fire department will be declared a winner. There is no charge for fire trucks to enter the Mount Olive Christmas parade; however, fire departments must contact the chamber at 919-658-3113 or send an email to [email protected] to sign up.
The grand marshal of the Mount Olive Christmas parade is chosen by a committee of chamber members and Mount Olive citizens. Nominations are currently being sought for a grand marshal and applications are available at the chamber office or chamber website. The criteria for a grand marshal nomination include: (1) volunteers and gives back to our community, showing no concern for personal financial gain (2) deserves credit for good deeds completed, but doesn’t always receive recognition (3) is an inspiration toward making Mount Olive a better place to live, work and play (4) resides in Mount Olive or the surrounding area. The deadline to submit a nomination for Grand Marshal is November 15th.
The parade line up will commence at Carver Elementary (400 Old Seven Springs Road, Mount Olive) and travel down Old Seven Springs Road, Church Street, College Street and both sides of Center Street. The parade will disperse on James Street. Spectators can view the parade anywhere along the parade route.
