There’s talk of opening a new WCPS school on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.
At last week’s Board of Education meeting, interim Superintendent Dr. James Merrill announced Wayne County Public Schools was exploring the “exciting” idea with Seymour Johnson officials.
Dr. Merrill says they’ve looked at a few buildings on the base for the yet-to-be-defined program.
Merrill reminded of the work and cooperation between the school district and Air Force Base, including military family life counselors, deployment support, and military student clubs.
Dr. Merrill stressed this was just in the exploratory stages right now, and the school district, base officials and the County of Wayne were planning to meet and learn more about the possibility.
